Description
Soie d’Alger by Au Ver à Soie has 7 plies, which are easily divided. Soft, lustrous and smooth, it is made from a spun silk called “strusas” which gives it unrivaled regularity for hand embroidery and cross-stitch (especially on linen), canvas work (does not pill), and for making cording and tassels.
Available in 5m skeins.
Soie D’Alger is skein-dyed in the traditional method to guarantee even, consistent coloration. It does not come from Algeria—the name “Alger” refers to a specialized domestic manufacturing process. Made continuously by Au Ver à Soie in France since the late 19th century.
