Frequently Asked Questions

Ordering questions

Where can I find my pattern?

All patterns and instructional materials are available as downloadable digital files. The links to download them are included on the Order Confirmation page and in your order confirmation email in the right-hand column. Some projects come with multiple files (e.g. instruction booklet & pattern chart). If so, you will see them all listed separately.

If you have a Maydel account, you can also find your pattern files on the Downloads page of My Account. If you placed an order without logging into your Maydel account, just let us know and we’ll gladly link your purchase to your account.

Some patterns also have the option to be sent as printed packets or booklets for an additional fee. In that case, your pattern will be mailed with the rest of your order, but you’ll also have access to the digital version in the places mentioned above.

I never got my order confirmation email. What do I do?

If you don’t receive your order confirmation email within 20 minutes of having placed your order, please first check your Spam and All Mail folders to make sure it wasn’t accidentally filtered out of your inbox (you can also search your email for “Maydel”). If you still can’t locate it, please contact us with the email address where you would like to receive it and we can re-send it.

How come I don’t see my recent purchase in my Maydel account?

If you weren’t signed in to your Maydel account when you placed your order, it won’t automatically show up on your orders page, but we’d be happy to link it to your account for you. Just let us know.

I chose to pick up my order in person. How will know when it’s ready?

Orders with free local pick-up are typically ready by 4:30pm one business day after they’re ordered. You will receive a shipping notification email with “Ready for pickup” listed as the tracking number when your order is ready. You can pick up orders seven days a week at Midwest Nice/Sacred Art Gallery at 4619 N Lincoln Ave in Chicago.

Product questions

What does “available on backorder” mean?

Items available on backorder are items that are currently out of stock but have been re-ordered from our suppliers. We try our best to include estimated arrival dates on the product pages for those items, but sometimes they’re unavailable due to things like manufacturing issues, such that arrival dates aren’t available.

available on backorder

If you place an order that contains backordered items, it may be held for up to two weeks if the items are due to arrive at our warehouse within that time. Otherwise, backordered items will be shipped with your next order, or separately as they become available. Backordered items that are large or heavy may require a separate shipping charge. We’ll notify you if that’s the case or if any items become discontinued. You may cancel backordered items at any time and receive a refund.

Can you notify me when an item is back in stock?

We unfortunately don’t yet have the capability to inform you when specific items are back in stock, though we are working to add this feature to the website in 2023. When we have them, we post expected re-stock dates on the product pages themselves, and we announce re-stocks in our monthly-ish newsletter.

How do bundles work? What makes them different from kits?

A bundle is a customizable collection of supplies for making a project. Unlike with a kit, each item in a bundle can be changed or removed to suit your preferences and budget. Already own a particular floss color? Set its quantity to zero. Have a nickel sensitivity or allergy? Choose a nickel-free needle instead of a standard one. We understand that this way of shopping can take little getting used to, but we think it’s worth trying something new if it saves both money and the planet.
