Description
Pellon Wonder Under is a very lightweight, paper-backed, heat-activated fusible web used to turn fabrics into appliqués, allowing them to bond to other fabrics or porous surfaces like wood and cardboard.
We especially love Wonder Under for tambour and embroidery appliques using the following method:
- Cut a piece of Wonder Under that’s slightly smaller than your finished embroidery and iron it onto the back of your work following the package directions.
- Cut your applique out of the fabric, leaving a small seam allowance.
- Remove the backing paper from the Wonder Under.
- Fold your seam allowance underneath the applique and iron the edge down. The Wonder Under will hold it place so you have a truly seamless applique that you can affix to another surface.
You can also use Wonder Under to fuse a backing fabric behind a finished embroidered work. It can be machine washed and tumble dried on low heat, but it may cause bonded fabrics to feel stiffer or more “crackly” over time.
Because Wonder Under is essentially a two-sided glue, we don’t recommend using this in place of interfacing or stabilizer.
