Description
Silver plated smooth passing is a fine thread made from a wire-wrapped silk core. Perfect for filling in smooth areas of metalwork projects, typically added via couching.
Sold by the yard or in full spools of 10g or 25g. As an example, 10g of size 5 smooth passing is approximately 32 yds./29m. Smaller sizes/diameters have more yardage; larger sizes have less.
Sizes are as follows:
- Size #7: 0.60–0.65mm in diameter
- Size #6: 0.55–0.60mm in diameter
- Size #5: 0.45–0.50mm in diameter
- Size #4: 0.40–0.45mm in diameter
Silver-plated smooth passing thread is made from a thin copper wire plated in 99% pure silver and coiled around a silk thread core. The total metal content of the wire is 10% silver and 90% copper.
Because silver has a tendency to tarnish, it’s recommended to keep it out of humidity and direct sunlight and to make sure your hands are clean (with no lotion/cream) when touching/working with the thread.
