Soie d’Alger is a stranded spun silk with 7 plies, which are easily divided. Soft, lustrous and smooth, it is made from a spun silk called “strusas” which gives it unrivaled regularity for hand embroidery and cross-stitch (especially on linen), canvas work (does not pill), and for making cording and tassels.
Available in 5m skeins in 12 initial colors, with more to come.
Soie D’Alger is skein-dyed in the traditional method to guarantee even, consistent coloration. It does not come from Algeria—the name “Alger” refers to a specialized domestic manufacturing process. Made continuously by Au Ver a Soie in France since the late 19th century.
