Description
Weldbond is a non-toxic glue that strongly bonds nearly all natural materials. It looks, smells, and behaves just like Elmers or other PVA paper glues when you apply it, and it washes off skin and fabric in a similar way—but it holds like nothing we’ve ever seen.
You can use Weldbond on wood, fabric, glass, cork, tile, metal, ceramics/clay and just about any natural material. It’s what we use to permanently glue the brass caps on our tambour handles and for just about every repair job that pops up at Maydel headquarters. Weldbond dries quickly, flexibly, and completely clear. You can also use it as a sealant on porous surfaces. Some of our favorite uses include:
- Finishing the backs of embroideries (in hoops or on paper/wood)
- Mosaics
- Mixed media assemblages
- Collage/decoupage
- Repairing tools and decorative objects
We love Weldbond for its super hold, but also for its safety. It has been tested to be non-toxic and conforms to ASTM D4236. Weldbond’s UL/Ecologo certification states that it has been created without: latex, aromatic or halogenated solvents, formaldehyde, or toxic metals. It has no odor, no phthalates, and has not been made with animal byproducts or tested on animals.
That said, Weldbond can’t do everything. It’s not great on a lot of plastics or on cast metals (e.g. cast iron or cast aluminum) and because it’s water-based, it’s not waterproof. Still, this extremely versatile and harmless adhesive is a glue we reach for frequently.
