World-class needlework instruction has come to Chicago! Whether you’re looking for the gentlest possible introduction to embroidery or an in-depth technique intensive, chances are you’ll find it at our flagship Ravenswood location. Maydel hosts teachers from all over, including beloved locals Shannon Downey and Lauren Yeager.
Coming up next:
Introduction to Needle Painting with Lauren Yeager
Sunday, May 5th from 10am–3:30pm
Ready to level up your stitching? In this workshop you’ll learn how to blend colors together to create new shades, and also learn how to layer colors for starker color transitions. We will practice how to needlepaint from wider to narrower areas, and move expertly around curves to create realistic-looking botanicals.
We will all be working from the same pre-printed pansy design but students will be able to choose their own thread colors.
Stitch Builders: Looped Stitches with Lauren Yeager
Sunday, May 12th from 10am–3:30pm—celebrate a caregiver by learning together!
This class is part of Lauren Yeager’s Stitch Builders series, which is perfect for both beginning and intermediate stitchers. In each class, students will spend the day practicing 8 different embroidery stitches as they create a sampler to showcase what they’ve learned. The May 12th session will cover a group of stitches worked by looping the thread, including:
- Wheatear
- Van Dyke
- Herringbone
- Buttonhole
- Chain
- Heavy chain
- Cretan
- Coral stitch
The Stitch Builders series will also introduce you to foundational embroidery skills such as how to thread the needle, how to start and end your threads, and how to use an embroidery hoop.
The class fee also includes all needed supplies such as fabric, needles, floss, and a hoop.
