Backorders
Orders that contain backordered items may be held for up to two weeks if the items are due to arrive at our warehouse within that time. Otherwise, backordered items will be shipped with your next order, or separately as they become available. Backordered items that are large or heavy may require a separate shipping charge. We’ll notify you if that’s the case. You may cancel backordered items at any time and receive a refund.
Local pickup
If you’d like to pick up your order in person, you can choose Pickup at Maydel as your shipping method at checkout. You will receive a notification via email when your order is ready (usually within 24 hours) at our Ravenswood store, located at 1746 W Wilson Ave., Chicago 60640. You can see our open hours and make an appointment here, or you can call/text us at 773-234-8504 to schedule a convenient time.
If our available hours don’t work with your schedule, you can also contact us and request to pick up your order at Midwest Nice/Sacred Art Gallery at 4619 N Lincoln Ave, Chicago 60625, which is open 7 days a week.
Shipping rates
**Maydel will pay for your shipping on U.S. orders of $50 or more. For orders under $50, shipping is $4.95 and up depending on the size and class of the package.
All orders are shipped using USPS First-Class service, USPS Media Mail or UPS Ground unless another shipping method is selected at checkout.
International orders are shipped via courier (UPS/DHL/FedEx), except for orders to Canada, which can also be shipped via USPS First Class or Priority Mail International.
All orders are shipped using a parcel service that includes tracking information. We do not ship anything using letter mail or stamps.
Shipping times
**Due to global and weather events (and the fact that we have zero control over the mail), we cannot guarantee any shipping times, regardless of destination or shipping method.
U.S. orders typically take 1 week or less to arrive. International orders typically take 2–3 weeks to arrive but can take longer depending on destination and customs clearance.
Fulfillment
Every order is lovingly packed and shipped at our headquarters in Chicago, IL. It typically takes 1–2 business days to get orders out the door, but we’re a small company staffed by real human beings so we sometimes take breaks, like on weekends and holidays. We will post a notice on the site if the warehouse is on vacation or there’s some other delay. Otherwise, if you need an order shipped out A.S.A.P., please contact us and we’ll see what we can do.
International taxes, duties, and customs fees
Maydel does not collect any taxes (including VAT), duties, or customs fees on orders shipped outside the U.S. You may be charged for these by your local office when you go to pick up your package.
Missing packages
If your order hasn’t been received, you can contact us to open a search request 7 days after your package was supposed to have arrived within the U.S., or 60 days after it was supposed to have arrived outside the U.S. This inquiry deadline is set by USPS; we won’t have access to any more information than you do until we file the search request, which is typically resolved within three weeks.
We unfortunately cannot refund shipments that are undeliverable due to an incorrect address entered at checkout. Please check your order confirmation page and/or email immediately after ordering to verify that the shipping address you entered is correct. This is especially important for international orders. We ship quickly—usually the same or next day, so we can’t retrieve an order very long after it’s been placed.
If an undeliverable shipment is returned to us, we will re-ship or refund the order. In the case where a shipment was returned due to an incomplete or incorrect delivery address, there will be an additional postage fee to re-ship.
Packaging and sustainability
In order to minimize our carbon footprint, we use the least packaging possible to get your order safely to its destination. We also pay to offset the carbon of shipping and delivery whenever possible. Charges for gift wrapping also include this offset. For more information, please see our sustainability statement.
